THE LUCKY ONE

Privilege such a comfy fit
I forgot I’m wearing it
I’m the one who gets to sit
And ponder how to use it

When my vote means nothing at the polls
cause propaganda gets to most
I’ll make another social post,
And keep the like-minded close

I’m the lucky one, trying not to turn a blind eye
I’m the lucky one, sit and watch the numbers rise

now the veil is flowing free
consequences finally seen
how can we all chose to be
in comfortable complicity

I’m feeling kind of skeptical
‘cause there’s no-one electable
when war is deemed acceptable
and death is just a spectacle

You say, “its bad for mental health,”
To bear witness, to be cognisant
but history will remember us
as failing those in Gaza

How can I save my soul?
If all I do in the end, is serve the status quo,
How can I save my soul?
If I deplore what’s done in my name,
to stay silent is to be already sold

and the lucky one,
who chose to sit and turn a blind eye
We’re the lucky ones,
Who sat and watched the numbers rise
I’m the lucky one, trying not to turn a blind eye
I’m the lucky one, who sat and watched the numbers rise
