GUTTERFLOWER

Growing up in storm water drains
I'm a little rougher hewn
a well watered rose in her garden bed
might tend to disapprove
now and then, my head goes under
and my petals start to rot
and I must again take seed and wait
for the person I forgot

It's all up in the air,
it changes hour by hour
salt water in my hair,
I'm this gutterflower

I'm on the fence, I've been climbing in,
while the sinner's sneaking out
as they, I'll tip my hat,
both on neithers route
I'll climb up the picket, grow in through the wood,
as they step into night,
the city dances, her heart is full,
but the suburb feels left out

it's all up in the air
it changes hour by hour
storm water in my hair,
I'm this gutterflower

it's neither here nor there,
I'm changing hour by hour
it's all up in the air,
I'm this gutterflower

Where the gutter meets the street
You'll find me in the heat,
forever growing,
my stem is a winding
my path I am finding
it's all up in the air
I'm neither here nor there
I'm this gutterflower

gutterflower's creeping up the white picket fence!
